CornCakes

This Pancake Saturday, I tried out a new recipe for corn (pan)cakes. Tasty and filling!

Listening to Tigger’s favorite new musician, Frances England, playing via Pandora radio. Seeing perfect skies, feeling a pleasant breeze, from the open living room window. Smelling apple salsa boiling in the rice cooker. Tasting sticky-with-fruit fingers as I kiss Tigger’s hands.

Thankful to be a Mama today.

What Mama moments did you hear, see, feel, smell, and taste this week?

Dutch Pancake

I had never heard of Dutch Pancakes (also called Oven Pancakes) until I searched for pancake recipes using lots of eggs. They fluff it up nicely, resulting in a texture similar to french toast. Baba hates eggs but loves this recipe, so it makes its rounds for our weekly pancake breakfasts!

I’ve been getting into the kitchen more now that Tigger’s old enough to either play with pots on the floors or entertain herself on my back. Here’re some things we’ve cooked up this year so far… let me know which dishes look good and I’ll try and get a recipe post up for them :)

Buckwheat Pancakes

I make pancakes every Saturday morning for breakfast and am having a ton of new fun trying and inventing new recipes. I wanted to tease with some recent photos to encourage everyone to bug me until I remember to post the recipes.

No, we certainly did not find all of the above items under the couch at one time. No, Baba is not right 90% of the time when he answers “probably under the couch” to any “where is …?” question. No, Tigger does not hide plastic bottles like a puppy buries bones. No, there is not only one actual toy in the collection we found.

And, in case you weren’t sure: yes, this is a “Not-Me Monday*” post.

What did you absolutely NOT do today?

We’re on the Fence! What’s that mean? Well, we get this cute little logo to go on the side of our blog, for one. But more importantly, if you CLICK on it (above or on the side), we get a vote! It’s just a little, “I like MamaWit!” that probably doesn’t mean a lot but will make us feel good that you enjoy reading along as we journey through this adventure called parenting :-)

We’re spending more and more time with our friends in the countryside, which is a ton of fun, lets us devote up to 13 hours a day to immersed language study, and lets Tigger spend most of her time in her favorite place, the great outdoors!

Of course, it also means less time online, which ironically equals less time sharing about what we’re doing (ironic because it makes it look like we aren’t doing anything!). Also ironically, though we’re doing what we love most, we more often forget to pull out the camera; I told my dad a few weeks ago it seems the moments that matter most are the ones I never think to record!

So, though there are only a few, I thought I’d share some village highlights from last month. I haven’t uploaded this month’s yet but will share once I do!

Every Thanksgiving for the last few years has been the same. Stressing about travel plans, mad rushes to the grocery store, adorably matching outfits getting stained and wrinkled, the smell of a feast and chattering of family, and FOOTBALL!

This year, when we began to iron out holiday plans, something occurred to me. Something that shocked me, almost angered me. Read the rest of this entry »

As a child, I never went trick or treating for the ‘holiday.’ My siblings and I would hand-craft costumes (that is, we would grab pillow cases, make paper masks, etc) and take turns passing out candy to trick-or-treaters. On a few occasions, our church would throw a welcome-fall party around Halloween, and everyone would dress up in costumes and go bobbing for apples and other fall-themed games and fun.
